Commercial Manager
Due to continued expansion, an abundant pipeline of works, and the recent award of a number of long-term frameworks and major contracts, our client is now looking to appoint a Commercial Manager in our clients Belfast office.
Our client is one of the UKs leading multi-disciplinary utilities, LV / HV power, telecommunications, multi-utility, civil engineering, infrastructure, and EV and renewable energy contractors. They possess the skills and expertise to design and deliver complex projects in highly regulated and hazardous environments across a number of different service lines, regional offices and business units.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the main purpose of this role will be to ensure commercial and contractual control and co-ordination of the efforts of all parties involved in the acquisition and execution of assigned projects. You will provide leadership to other members of the commercial and quantity surveying teams, and also support to the Directors on all aspects relating to commercial activity. Applications are invited from existing Commercial Managers or Senior / Managing Quantity Surveyors wishing to progress who will receive support from the senior leadership team.
The Role
Overseeing commercial activities and financial governance, working closely with the operations teams, and provide advice or guidance as necessary
Risk and opportunity identification and management at all stages of the contract lifecycle
Cash flow management and budget compliance
Review / challenge existing commercial processes to identify and implement best practice
Ensure contracts and sub-contracts have been drawn up prior to commencement of work, and review those drawn up by third parties
Notification, preparation and agreement of claims if necessary
Oversee WIP levels and cashflow to ensure efficient processes and cash collection
Undertake sporadic contract audits to ensure good practice and compliance
Prepare monthly financial and CVR reports, identifying trends and areas for improvement
Managing contracts including final accounts and agreement of interim assessments, change events, EWNs and EoT etc, as well as dispute resolution
Financial reconciliation and general contractual management
Attending meetings with clients, other internal teams and senior management as required
Preparation of commercial reports, including KPI information, estimates of defined costs to complete, and any pain gain position
Preparing, agreeing and submitting final accounts
Preparation and administration of subcontract documents including set up
The Person
Previous experience in the capacity of being a senior or lead member of a commercial team within any area of the utilities or specialist civil engineering sectors
Sound working knowledge of civil engineering and contract law, and various forms of contract
Knowledge and understanding of tendering and procurement processes
Knowledge of various techniques pertaining to a wide array of projects
Ability to apply the knowledge and principles of commercial and contractual management to complex and challenging schemes
Knowledge and understanding of sub-contracting principles, together with the ability to draft and administer subcontracts
Proficiency in communication, reporting, numeracy, IT and MS Office etc
The ability to build effective relationships at all levels both internally and externally
Proven ability to be the senior or lead member of a team and work on your own initiative
Enthusiasm and results focussed, with an ability to work well under pressure and often against challenging or stringent deadlines
Effective negotiation skills with both internal and external clients and teams
